Here's the 8th installment in six sentences from Bride of the Living Dead, a romantic comedy about a woman who loves horror movies too much. Last time Oscar and Daria (finally!) got together. Now weeks have become months and things keep getting better:
"Daria, I do love you." It wasn’t the first time he had said it, but it was the first time he had said it when we were both fully clothed. "You could move in here, we could get married."
For a moment I was speechless. I had just managed to fall into my sister Sky’s "Step 2 - Get him to propose" without even trying. I was so shocked that I wondered if there was something wrong with the idea, even though every fiber in my body was in favor of it.
Daria's sister Sky's 5 Steps to living happily ever after are described in the first few pages of Bride of the Living Dead which you can read by using the handy dandy Book Buzzr widget on the right.

I liked hearing her inner thoughts, interesting that she didint just jump and agree to something she planeed to get him to ask in the first place. Great six xx
ReplyDeleteThanks, Kerrianne! Also good to hear from a fellow night owl!
ReplyDeleteCommenting on my comment to your comment Kerrianne, I see that from visiting your blog that you are in the UK (for the moment) and clearly I need to sleep before calculating the time difference--LOL!
ReplyDeleteLOL! The bit about "the first time he said it when we were clothed" was great. :)
ReplyDeleteLove that she noted it was the first time he'd said it when they were dressed.
ReplyDeleteHe said it while they were clothed. Great line
ReplyDeleteHa! As others have said, the line about both wearing their clothes made me laugh aloud.
ReplyDeleteAgreed. I love the line about fully clothed. I love the underlining humour.
ReplyDeleteSo true, meaning of the "L" word varies depending on state of dress, lol
ReplyDeleteguess I've missed some - more interested in the living dead part than the clothing issue
ReplyDeleteGreat showing of her inner conflict! Nice six.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely fabulous six, Lynne. I feel her angst - her fear of believing.
ReplyDeleteThanks J. Rose, Sarah, Rebecca, Linda, Viviane and Claire! (If it's correct to say "thanks for laughing--LOL!)
ReplyDeleteAbout the "living dead" thing, sassyspeaks, I fell in love with the title. I paid the price when it caused confusion among zombie-loving readers, because this book has no paranormal critters. Titles shouldn't need an explanation but here goes: Daria is an indie film critic who loves horror movies. The bone-chilling horror that makes her feel like The Bride od the Living Dead dawns as Daria is "Family-drama-forced" into having a formal wedding with her control freak older sister in charge... More about that soon.
Thanks, Jessica, this rebellious heroine mistrusts rules and conventions so a marriage proposals spooks her!
Thanks, Lauri, got it in one!
ReplyDeleteLove hearing her thoughts.
ReplyDeleteGood six and I love taht you write about real sized people.
ReplyDeleteI like the inner hesitation and the calculating sister - it makes the character pleasingly complex.
ReplyDeleteThat's a rocky start. Usually I advise waiting until the person will answer yes before proposing. I hope it works out...
ReplyDeleteThanks, Lindsay, Daria has a very strong smart-alec streak that only sometimes expresses itself out loud.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Jayel, to be honest I'm playing a little game to see how the non-size-related parts of the story work on their own. The body positive message is clear from the first few pages of the book and it continues to surface often, but I'm enjoying telling the story "as if people weren't so nutty on the subject of body size." Fun for me anyway!
I'm glad you liked that ada, the sister-to-sister drama is important to the story!
Good point, Liana...more on how it works out next week...
I like how, when she gets what she wants faster than she expected, she questions it--says a lot about her character! Great!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Laura!
